Gun: Walther Q5 Steel Frame

Travis King has been a firearms instructor for three years, building on two years of prior experience before stepping into competitive shooting. He began competing about a year ago, entering his first USPSA match at Quantico, Virginia — an all-classified event that marked the start ofhis journey in the sport.

Travis credits his mentor, Lewis Hughes (Full Metal Sunset on Instagram), a former Grandmaster shooter and instructor from Maryland, for shaping his development. He now competes across multiple disciplines, including USPSA, PCC, Two-Gun, and IDPA, showcasing his versatility as a shooter.

He has earned several local match wins, often competing against 20–30 shooters, and regularly enters larger events with up to 200 participants. His main competition pistol is a Walther Q5 Steel Frame, witha Walther PDP Steel Frame 4.25” as backup. He shoots House of Pain Ammunition (Hop Ammunition) andtrains one to two times weekly through matches and range sessions.

Travis identifies movement and speed as his greatest strengths while focusing on refining his visual patience and accuracy. His mental preparation includes drive-by training, live fire, and reading scripture to clear his mind and maintain focus before competitions.

He cautions new shooters against following trends blindly, encouragingthem instead to adapt to their own anatomy and shooting style. His advice: “Go for it.” For Travis, competitive shooting is as humbling as it is rewarding — teaching discipline, patience,and emotional control.

Outside the range, Travis works asan auto body technician and mechanic, serves in church security, and trainshis 13-year-old son in rifle and pistol shooting. He values the brotherhoodand unity within Team Blacksmith,viewing the team as family. His roleis to bring positivity, love, faith,and light — inspiring others through both skill and spirit.
