Gun: Pistol Caliber Carbine

Eric Jackson discovered competitive shooting after watching a USPSA video on YouTube and officially joined USPSA in February 2021, competing in his first match a month later. With a military background in the Air Force, where he served until 2008, Eric was already familiar with firearms before entering the sport.

Eric primarily competes in USPSA but also enjoys IDPA, two-gun, and steel matches. Over the past four years, he has won around 30 local matches and places in the top five about 80% of the time. His proudest moment came when he won his first match at Pontucky as an A-Class PCC shooter competing against Master and Grandmaster-level shooters. Known for his precise movement and ability to dissect stage flow, Eric continues to refine his fundamentals and accuracy.

Eric dedicates about 80–90% of his training to dry fire, spending an hour each day practicing weapon handling, transitions, and stage execution. Once a week, he trains live fire with 300–500 rounds to reinforce precision and rhythm. He prioritizes accuracy and maintains his speed through cycling and leg workouts that enhance mobility and endurance.

Eric’s mental preparation centers on staying calm, visualizing each stage, and avoiding overthinking. He believes success comes from familiarity and confidence with one’s firearm. His advice for new shooters: focus on consistent dry fire to build second-nature handling. He reminds beginners that skill develops through experience—not expensive gear—and encourages them to “just do it” and learn by participating.

Eric competes with a Pistol Caliber Carbine built on an Aero Precision upper and lower and uses Super Vel 147-grain hush ammunition. His favorite piece of gear is his Invicta Super Diver watch with a yellow face, which he wears to every match as both a good-luck charm and part of his competition ritual.

Outside of shooting, Eric enjoys working on cars, cooking, and spending time with his family. He’s previously owned a Ford Mustang GT and now drives an Alfa Romeo Giulia Q4. Within Team Blacksmith, Eric values the camaraderie and mentorship that come from being part of a tight-knit, competitive community. He takes pride in helping new shooters grow and supporting his teammates as they represent excellence both on and off the range.
