Based in Charles County, Maryland, Kofi Handon brings a versatile background in education, firearms training, and photography to Team Blacksmith. He has been a firearms instructor for over 5 years with his own training academy based in Lanham, MD, training security officers, and has been in the competitive shooting world for 4 years. Starting with steel challenge matches, he quickly expanded into USPSA and IPSC, embracing the challenge of continuous improvement.

Kofi’s approach to shooting is grounded in safety, fundamentals, and efficiency. His mantra, “we get better with every rep,” reflects his belief that progress is more important than prizes. Known for his self-awareness, he excels at quickly recognizing and correcting mistakes while striving for economy of motion. He trains regularly through dry fire practice and match preparation, using a Masterpiece Arms DS9 Hybrid along with trusted gear like Hunters HD Gold glasses and Aware Defense ear protection.

Beyond shooting, Kofi is the founder of Love Life Photography, a business he has run since 2004. His passion for capturing people and moments complements his life as an educator and former assistant principal, where he developed the ability to lead, mentor, and adapt—skills he now brings to Team Blacksmith.

For Kofi, competitive shooting is not just about personal growth but also about building camaraderie, representing diversity in the sport, and changing the narrative of black firearms ownership. He values his role on Team Blacksmith as a supportive, adaptable teammate who helps elevate the entire group.

His advice to new shooters: “Focus on building capacity, release your ego, and always prioritize safety."
