Josh Morgan

USPSA Grand Master in Production and Limited

Gun: CZ Shadow 2 and CZ Tactical Sport pistols

Josh Morgan’s journey into competitive shooting began with defensive training and concealed carry. Carrying a firearm brought with it what Josh saw as a serious legal and moral responsibility to develop real proficiency, and that pursuit ultimately led him to competition.

His first match delivered an immediate reality check. Josh joined a highly knowledgeable squad, quickly discovered how much he still had to learn, and was soundly outperformed. Instead of discouraging him, the experience became a powerful motivation to return, train, and improve. The late Stefan, Josh’s primary mentor during his early development, also played an important role in shaping him as a shooter.

After competing in IDPA for many years, Josh shifted his focus entirely to United States Practical Shooting Association competition. Production and Limited are now his primary divisions. One of Double Tap’s two Grand Masters, Josh brings an especially analytical perspective to the sport. He studies scoring methodology, stage strategy, and the measurable details that turn strong shooting into winning performance.

One of Josh’s proudest moments came at the 2025 Kansas State Championship, where he went head-to-head with a Grand Master he was not expected to beat. Josh completed the upset by only a handful of points—a narrow victory that reflected both his preparation and his ability to execute under pressure.

Josh trains three to four times each week, adjusting his routine according to the areas that need the most work. Rather than choosing between speed and accuracy, he develops both and deliberately practices the skills that challenge him most. Before a major competition, he visualizes his performance and trusts the work he has already completed instead of trying to create something new on match day.

Josh currently competes with CZ Shadow 2 and CZ Tactical Sport pistols. When running a red-dot optic, he uses Athena Precision steel optic plates. His most indispensable piece of equipment is a sturdy range bag, with Vertx bags earning his confidence through regular use.

For Josh, shooting is more than a weekend activity: it is his profession, recreation, and central passion. He values Double Tap because it surrounds him with competitors who genuinely want one another to succeed. Although the team does not rely on rigidly defined roles, Josh helps educate others through his experience while continuing to learn alongside every member of the squad.

His advice to anyone considering competitive shooting is simple: start now. No one feels completely ready for a first match, and the best way to improve is to step onto the range, give it your best effort, and learn from the experience.
